my vows.

28 days ago I became a wife.

I am still processing the wonder, the beauty, and the magic of that day.

When I woke up on August 3rd, I felt light, nervous, and full of anticipation. The day was finallyย here.ย Much about the day was normal. I drank coffee. I ate breakfast. I listened to music. And yet, so much was so intricately special. My best friends were around me. My hair and make-up were full of glam. By the time the afternoon rolled around, I began to understand, even more fully, exactly how sacred this day was actually going to be. My life was going to change forever.

There were many moments that day that still take my breath away: seeing Chelsea for the first time in her gorgeous dress, walking down the aisle with my dad (and then with Chelsea), seeing my loved ones look back at me with boundless love, and of course, reading my vows to Chelsea. We were asked to keep them short and sweet, which involved me cutting down my anecdotes, feelings, and stories by A LOT. Yet, I’m happy with what remained, as I feel that my vows speak to exactly what I wanted to share with Chelsea, and the essence of what made our day so intimate and full of love.

My Vows

Before today, there were yearbook rooms, field hockey fields, and long summers at the pool.

Then, as if being readied for what was to come, we stepped into the world and found the wonders of life. Adventure, coming home, coming out, heartbreak, change, loss, growth, and budding responsibility.

In all of this, we found each other.

After today, I see our home filled with color and clean designs.

I see photographs and books of the places we will go. I see our children playing outside. I see graduations, joy, and also pain. I see road trips, moves, and silly jokes.

I choose this journey with you.

I chose all of you. Your laugh, your gentleness, your brilliance, your creativity, your beauty, your soul that longs for truth and justice.

I will stand with you and for you.

I will dance with you and by you.

I will honor you with all that I can give.

I choose you as my wife. My heart is yours.
